The PMAY scheme can be categorized into two categories –

What is PMAY-U?
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) is a government program that has been in place since June 2015. It aims to provide affordable housing options and reduce homelessness in urban areas.
The program provides central assistance to implementing agencies to provide houses to eligible families. The beneficiaries could be individuals and families from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), lower-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG) who do not own a permanent house and wish to avail financial assistance for acquiring or constructing a home.
What is PMAY-G?
The PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) component of the scheme is applicable to rural areas and aims to build 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities. The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 1,20,000 for plains and flat areas and Rs 13,00,000 for hilly and difficult areas.
The primary goal of the PMAY-G is to build houses with basic amenities such as water, sanitation, and electricity for those who do not have their own homes or those who live in damaged houses.

What are the eligibility criteria for the PM Awas Yojana scheme?
The eligibility criteria for PMAY are mentioned below –
- Applicants of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme must belong to EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Low Income Group), and MIG I & II (Middle Income Group)
- The age of applicants must be a minimum of 18 and less than 70 years.
- The annual income of applicants from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) should not exceed Rs 3 lakh.
- For applicants in the LIG or Low-Income Groups, the annual income should fall between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.

Registered applicants of PM Awas Yojana can check the list by following the steps below –
- Visit the official website of PM Awas Yojana.
- Click on the Report option on the Homepage.
- Here, you will find the option of beneficiary details for verification. Fill in the details of your district, state, village, etc.
- Select the year after that and select PM Awas Yojana.
- Fill in the captcha code, and click on the Submit button.
