Types of NTA NEET Counselling

NEET counselling is designed to help students secure admission into various medical courses through different sessions. There are three main types of counselling:

  • All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling: Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), this process allocates 15% of seats in government medical colleges across India. It involves four rounds: two initial rounds, a mop-up round for unplaced candidates, and a stray vacancy round to fill any remaining seats.
  • State Quota Counselling: Managed by individual state authorities, this counselling allocates seats in both government and private medical colleges within each state. Multiple rounds are held to ensure seats are distributed fairly according to state-specific guidelines.
  • AYUSH Counselling: This is specifically for admissions into AYUSH courses like BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, and BSMS. Conducted by the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC), it provides a structured pathway for candidates interested in these alternative medical courses.

These counselling sessions play a vital role in ensuring that eligible candidates secure seats in medical colleges across the country, each tailored to different categories of seats and courses.

NTA NEET UG Counselling Process 2024

The NEET Counselling process, conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) involves several crucial steps for securing seats in medical courses. Typically, there are four rounds for All India Quota (AIQ) seats:

  • Round 1
  • Round 2
  • Round 3
  • Stray Vacancy Round

Depending on seat availability, additional rounds may be included, as was done last year for BDS and BSc Nursing courses. The seat allotment process covers government and private medical colleges, deemed/central universities, ESIC/AFMS institutes, AIIMS, and JIPMER. The Counselling process is as follows:

  • Release of NEET Seat Matrix: MCC publishes the seat matrix for MBBS and BDS courses across participating universities, offering 15% AIQ seats.
  • NEET Counselling Registration: Candidates register online for each round (except the Stray Vacancy round). During registration, they provide contact details, NEET 2024 Roll Number, Rank, Scores, and other required information. Non-refundable registration fees and a refundable security deposit must be paid.
  • NEET Counselling Choice Filling: Candidates select their preferred colleges online. It is advised to prepare a tentative list of preferred colleges before making choices online.
  • NEET Counselling Choice Locking: Candidates lock their choices to finalize their selection and print the submitted choices. Once locked, choices cannot be modified. MCC advises candidates not to wait until the last minute to lock choices.
  • Verification and Processing of Seat Allotment: Universities and colleges verify the registration details and choices submitted by candidates, release the seat allotment results and share them with MCC.
  • NEET Seat Allotment Result: MCC releases a provisional seat allotment result, allowing candidates to submit objections. Afterwards, the final result is published. Candidates can either accept the seat, report to the institute, or opt for an upgrade in subsequent rounds.
  • NEET Counselling Document Upload: After seat allotment, candidates upload the required documents to the MCC NEET 2024 Counselling website.
  • Institute Reporting: Candidates report to their allotted institute with hard copies of mandatory documents and pay the admission fees.

Note: In the Stray Vacancy round, the seat allotment result is released directly without requiring registration or choice-filling.

NEET Counselling For 15% All India Quota

After the NEET results are announced, the counselling process for 15% of all India Quota (AIQ) seats will begin, excluding Jammu and Kashmir. This process will occur in four rounds and cover several key categories.

The AIQ seats include those at ESIC institutions, 100% MBBS seats at AIIMS across India, seats at JIPMER (Puducherry and Karaikal), as well as seats at AMU, DU, VMMC, and ABVIMS. Additionally, 15% of MBBS and BDS seats in various states, as well as All India Quota seats at the Faculty of Dentistry (Jamia Millia Islamia), are also included.

How to Apply for NEET AIQ/15% Quota Counselling Process?

The NEET 2024 AIQ/15% Quota Counselling process includes a few key steps –

  • First, candidates need to register online to join the Counselling. During this phase, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will open the window for Option Entry and Choice Filling.
  • Candidates will then enter their preferred courses and colleges in order of priority.
  • The Counselling begins with the first round, which involves seat allocation, followed by reporting to the allotted institutes. This process continues through additional rounds until all seats are filled.

Changes in NEET AIQ Counselling 2024

The NEET Counselling process introduces notable changes compared to previous years. Unlike before, where MCC conducted three rounds of AIQ Counselling and transferred any vacant seats to state Counselling, this year features four distinct rounds:

  • NEET AIQ Round 1
  • NEET AIQ Round 2
  • AIQ Mop-up Round
  • AIQ Stray Vacancy Round

Key changes to note include:

  • Fresh registrations are allowed only for Round 1, Round 2, and the Mop-up Round.
  • Upgradation from Round 2 is not permitted; once a seat is secured in Round 2, candidates cannot opt for a higher preference seat in later rounds.
  • Candidates who accept a seat in Round 2 cannot resign or participate in subsequent rounds.
  • Those who do not accept admission in Round 2 can join the Mop-up Round but must re-register, leading to forfeiture of the security deposit.

These changes are designed to streamline seat allocation and ensure that all AIQ seats are filled efficiently.
