Earlier, it was possible to register land based on genealogy, even if it was in the name of the great-grandfather of the seller. However, the new land registry rules now require that you cannot sell your grandfather’s land without first registering it in your name.

To resolve mutual disputes and prevent fraud in buying and selling land, Jamabandi/holdings in their name are now permitted to sell land. Understanding how complicated things can get, the Revenue Land Reforms Department, Government of Bihar, is organizing special camps every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in all areas of Bihar. These camps can help you register or hold ancestral land in one’s name.
During these camps, only applications for updating Jamabandi will be accepted, along with self-signed Vashawali, partition deed signed by all parties, and evidence for Jamabandi revision, including Ebina Khata, Khesra, Lagaan, and Area.
These documents will be verified during the camp, and then the applications will be processed according to the rules, and Jamabandi updating will be carried out.
